I Wanted Experimenting New Sounds -Rema

Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter, stage performer and brand ambassador Divine Ikubor, aka, Rema, recently opened up as to why he decided to try some new sounds that were different from his former records.

 

He also shared how his record label weren’t too sure about his new sounds, and they found it too sensitive and risky.

 

 He said that his record label was not so certain about his decision to a new sound while recording, stating that he already had a specific method and should rather work with that flow.

In an interview with complex music, he shared that, he aimed to represent his generation and create a cultural link for his fans worldwide.

He vividly emphasized that his artistic choices were deliberate and focused at leaving a lasting mark on Afrobeat.

‘I experimented a lot, I did a lot of infusion but still kept it raw and original. I’m in a stage where I am already quite global, it’s just normal for me to continue. I wanted to take it back to square one, and I am glad my OG’s respected my view”.

 

Rema, born May 1st, 2000 in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria, began his professional musical career in the year 2019, with his debut single release ‘Dumebi”. After the sad demise of his father and older brother. He was raised by his mother, who played a significant role in his life.

 

Due to his kind of music and collabs with both Nigerian and International artists all over the world, Rema is considered to be fans favorite.

Alleged, he is said to be valued at around $1 million, he makes his money via his music and as a brand ambassador. The artist has won and received nominations from different award categories.

Rema asserted that he wanted to create an album that had little influence of amapiano, and this brought about his album “HEIS’.

 

Recently, popular Nigerian born dancehall artist, singer and songwriter, Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan, popularly known as 'Cynthia Morgan', currently going by the name 'Madrina', blasted Mavins Record about Rema's smoking habits.

 

Morgan emphasized that, there's more to life than just music and stage performances. She sternly stated that she will find and hold Mavins Record responsible if anything should happen to singer Rema.

"And that Rema wey dey hold cigar wey he no sabi smoke. If anything happens to that boy, Mavins, I go find una office”.

Morgan further went on to talk about a popular singer Ayra Starr, blasting her about how she dressed to dinner with Hollywood star, Will Smith.

“Meeting with Will Smith, dressed up like that? There is more to life than stage performances and music my dear”.
